Spring Youth Soccer Camp

Camp Overview

This camp is open to boys and girls ages 5-14. Join the Michigan Tech Soccer team for six sessions throughout March and April to help learn and develop soccer skills. Players will be divided into appropriate age groups and get the chance to work on various soccer skills alongside the current MTU players and coaching staff. Each session will have a specific topic with a variety of different drills each day! Some of the topics that will be worked on include dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, and 1v1!

What to Expect

Each day will have a different topic and the campers will be put through a variety of drills to help them develop. Participants need to bring a ball, shin guards, and a water bottle. Training sessions will be held in the SDC Multipurpose Room. So please bring the proper footwear to play on a gym floor.

Group 1 - Ages 5-9

Group 2 - Ages 10-14

  • Sunday, March 9 - 1:15-2:15pm
    • Check-In - 12:45-1:15pm (Check-In will be held at the SDC front counter)
  • Sunday, March 16 - 1:15-2:15pm
  • Sunday, March 23 - 1:15-2:15pm
  • Sunday, March 30 - 4:45-5:45pm
  • Sunday, April 6 - 4:45-5:45pm
  • Sunday, April 13 - 1:15-2:15pm

Registration

$90/participant

Commuter only. On-campus housing and meals are not available for this camp.

Registration opens: February 17, 2025, 8:00 am EST

Deadline to Register: March 2, 2025, 11:59 pm EST

Register online, in person at the Ticket Office, or by calling 906-487-2073. Payment in full is due at the time of registration..

Additional information, including a confirmation packet, will be made available after registration. The confirmation packet must be submitted within two weeks of registration.

Refunds

Prior to Deadline: Refunds will be issued upon receipt of a written notice of cancellation from a parent or guardian. Email or fax is acceptable. Please include the participant’s name and camp attending.

After Deadline: Refunds will be issued for medical reasons only. Written notice of cancellation from a parent or guardian must be accompanied by a doctor’s certificate. Email or fax is acceptable. Please include the participant’s name and camp attending.

If a participant is injured during camp, a refund will be issued in the form of a credit voucher for the next year for 80 percent of the unused portion of camp.

No refunds are given when a participant is expelled for disciplinary reasons.

In the event that a camp is canceled, registration fees only (we do not refund travel expenses) will be refunded in full or campers will have the option of switching to a similar camp if available.

Parking

Visitors may use Lots 22 or 24, located outside the main entrance of the SDC, for parking during camps. There is no overnight parking. Please do not park in the UP Health System and Rehab Services lot (north end of the SDC).

Meet the Coaches

Melissa Kuhar is the third soccer head coach in the program's history. Kuhar has served as an assistant coach under head coach Justin Olson, spending the last four seasons at Division II Institution Drury, an affiliate of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. She helped the Panthers to an overall record of 39-18-15 in four seasons, which included a GLVC Championship in 2021 and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid since 2007. That year Olson and Kuhar were honored as NCAA Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

She was also the head girls' soccer coach at Greenwood High School in Springfield, where she guided the Blue Jays to the Missouri state semifinals, a third-place finish in Class 1 and a 16-4 record in her first season at Greenwood.

Prior to her four seasons as the assistant coach for Drury, Kuhar served three years as an assistant coach at Bethany College under Coach Olson where the Swedes went 27-24-4 during the duos three years at Bethany. She also worked as a sports information assistant and an adjunct professor teaching classes in the Exercise Science department.

Kuhar also coached at the high school level with stints at Salina and Saint Joseph High School, where she helped Saint Joseph reach the Indiana 3A State semifinals.

Kuhar played collegiate soccer at St. Joseph's, Ind., a former NCAA Division II GLVC affiliate institution from 2014-16 and graduated with a degree in Sport Management. She also owns a master's degree in Sports Administration from the American Public University System.  

Hunter Stoddard, Graduate Assistant/Goalkeepers Coach, Michigan Tech Women's Soccer
Hunter Stoddard
is a current Ph.D. student at Michigan Tech studying Chemical Engineering. He is in his third season as graduate assistant coach/goalkeeper coach in 2023-24. He calls Hemlock, Michigan home and earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in the spring of 2020. Stoddard played four seasons of varsity soccer in high school as well as four years of club soccer in the Michigan State Premier Soccer League (MSPSP). He is still a member of MTU's club soccer team and has experience coaching youth soccer and recreational soccer in Hemlock.
