Michigan Tech’s Gates Tennis Center is the area’s premier indoor tennis facility. For beginners to pros and everyone in between, the Center has all of the top amenities, including:
- Four professional-quality indoor courts, all recently resurfaced
- Locker rooms with showers
Membership Access
Michigan Tech students have access to the Gates Tennis Center through student fees. Faculty, staff, and community members can purchase access in a variety of price and length options. Daily court rates are also available!

SDC/Gates Action Pass
An action pass to the Michigan Tech Student Development Complex (SDC) gives you access to our incredible facilities and services — our fitness center, swimming pool, racquetball courts, multipurpose room, court rental at Gates Tennis Center and admission to Open Skating, Open Hockey, Open Rock Climbing, Open Log Rolling, and more!
Community members and those not affiliated with Michigan Tech are welcome.
Length of Pass Rate
12-Visit $120
*Additional card creation fees will apply.
*Effective July 1, 2023, all credit card transactions will have a transaction fee of 2.3% of the total sales amount.
- Must be 18 years old to purchase.
- Allowed to be used by affiliates of purchaser while present, using age rules.
- For each day of use, the pass will be punched at the Ticket Office, and Patrons will receive a dated wristband.
- Expires one year from the date of purchase.
- Transferable between family members.
- Children three and under are admitted for free.
- Adult supervision is required for children under 12.
- Fitness center access is for patrons age 16 or older (valid ID required).
- SDC CUSTOMER PARKING REGULATIONS - Lot 22 has a two-hour parking limit Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- The SDC is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Please do not leave valuables unattended.
- Access to spacious locker rooms 109 Female, 110 Male with showers and saunas.
- Complimentary sports equipment issue at Information Desk.
Pickleball
Enjoy Pickleball as part of your Gates Tennis Center access! If you're not an access patron, don't worry! You can still play Pickleball at Gates Tennis Center with our daily court rate of $10 per person per day. Nets will be provided with your Pickleball court reservation. We have 4 Pickleball courts set up on Court 4 and Court 3. Pickleball paddles and balls are available at the front desk. To learn more about Pickleball, visit the official

Check-in Procedures
- All players must check in at the front desk before entering the courts. A valid Michigan Tech student ID or Gates pass card is required. All other players may pay the daily court fee at the Ticket Office and present a gold wristband.
Reservations
Court reservations at Gates Tennis Center can be made
online, in person with the attendant at Gates Tennis Center, or over the phone by calling 906-487-2774. Reservations are first come, first serve. You can view the Gates facility schedule

For Gates Members and Michigan Tech Students:
- Online reservations are accepted Monday - Friday, need to be a minimum of 24 hours in advance and an email will be sent to confirm. If an online reservation is made less than 24 hours prior to the reservation time, reservations must be made in person at Gates or over the phone with the Gates Tennis Center desk attendant at 906-487-2774. First come first serve for this process.
- If you wish to play over the weekend and online reservations were not made prior to Friday, they must be made in person at Gates or over the phone with the Gates Tennis Center desk attendant at 906-487-2774.
- If a cancellation is needed and it's within 24 hours of the reservation, Monday - Friday, please email recreation@mtu.edu. If it's over the weekend, call Gates directly at 906-487-2774.
- Members and Michigan Tech Students will use their ID in order to access their court reservation.
For patrons without a Gates membership:

- Upon payment, patrons will receive a gold wristband. The wristband serves as confirmation of your reservation and payment.
- Access to the courts for patrons without a Gates membership is contingent upon having a gold wristband.

Tardiness
The Gates Tennis Center allows a 15-minute grace period for players running a little late. However, you may be required to relinquish the court if other players are waiting.
Locker Rental Rates & Policies
Locker rentals with showers are available to Gates Access Pass Holders (minimum 3-months) and MTU students. Please visit the Ticket Office in the SDC to purchase a locker rental.

*Locker rentals are only available with Gates Tennis Center Pass (minimum 3-month). Locker rental expiration date cannot exceed Access Pass expiration date. Prorated rentals are not available.
Lost & Found
The SDC ticket office (487-2073) collects major value items found at the SDC and Gates Tennis Center. Within 48 hours, these items are forwarded to the
Department of Public Safety and Police Services and held for safekeeping for up to six months. After an appropriate time has elapsed, the items are disposed of according to applicable state law. Tennis rackets and minor value items left at Gates Tennis Center may be retrieved from staff at the tennis center (487-2774).
Gates Tennis Center is not responsible for the security of property lost, found or abandoned in the facility. Users are expected to keep their belongings such as cell phones and laptops within their sight at all times.

Stringing Services
Re-stringing services are unavailable until further notice
- Racquets can be dropped off at Gates Tennis Center for stringing service. Expect a minimum 2-week turnaround. Payments and pick-up will be accepted at the SDC Ticket Office once patron has been notified of completed service.

Etiquette
Please be respectful to all staff and patrons!
- Leave outdoor shoes, food, and drinks in the lobby.
- Water only on the courts.
- Walk behind the green curtain to your reserved court at the time of your reservation. No running around behind curtains.
- Shirts must be worn at all times.
- Only tennis and pickleball play allowed on courts.
- Maximum of 2-on-2 per tennis or pickleball court unless in a class. If playing in a larger group, please wait patiently and non-disruptively on the sidelines. Be mindful of excessive yelling during play or on the side.
- Respect all rental equipment and space. Return equipment to designated areas. Gently pick up and put down pickleball nets.
- Music can only be played by varsity teams and registered student organizations during designated hours.
Not following rules can result in revoked access to Gates Tennis Center.
