Gates Information
Michigan Tech’s Gates Tennis Center is the area’s premier indoor tennis facility. For beginners to pros and everyone in between, the Center has all of the top amenities, including:
- Four professional-quality tennis courts, and eight pickleball courts (all indoor)

All Gates users (students, members and guests) are expected to know, understand and abide by the facility rules and regulations that are posted throughout the facility. The member agreement will be reviewed at time of sale and signed annually.
Membership Rates (as of 5/4/26)
Michigan Tech students have access to the Gates Tennis Center through student fees. Faculty, staff, and community members can purchase membership in a variety of price and length options for both tennis and pickleball.

Purchasing a Membership
New and renewal membership purchases can take place at either the Gates Tennis Center or the SDC Ticket Office during open hours. Account creation/updates, digital signatures for MTU Athletics & Recreation Liability Waiver, Concussion Awareness Form, and Member Agreement are required as well as payment at time of purchase. All minors are required to have a legal parent/guardian present at time of purchase.

Purchasing Non-Member Guest Access
New and returning guest purchases can take place at either the Gates Tennis Center or the SDC Ticket Office during open hours. Account creation/updates, digital signatures for MTU Athletics & Recreation Liability Waiver, Concussion Awareness Form, and Member Agreement are required as well as payment at time of purchase. All minors are required to have a legal parent/guardian present at time of purchase. Guests must be 18 years old to purchase/use a single visit. Guests must be 18 years old to purchase a 12 punch Gates pass but it is allowed to be used by minors. Multiple guests may use punches; specific rules apply by activity type (see above chart).
- Single visit guest access can also be purchased online here. Punch passes can only be purchased in person.
Reservations
Court reservations at Gates Tennis Center can be made
online, in person with the attendant at Gates Tennis Center, or over the phone by calling 906-487-2774. Reservations are first come, first serve. You can view the Gates facility schedule

- Online reservations are accepted Monday - Friday, need to be a minimum of 24 hours in advance and an email will be sent to confirm. If less than 24 hours prior to the reservation time, reservations must be made in person at Gates or over the phone with the Gates Tennis Center desk attendant at 906-487-2774. First come first serve for this process.
- If a cancellation is needed and it's within 24 hours of the reservation, Monday - Friday, please email recreation@mtu.edu. If it's over the weekend, call Gates directly at 906-487-2774.
Check-in Procedures
- All players must check in at the front desk before entering the courts. A valid Michigan Tech student ID or Gates pass card is required.
Tardiness
The Gates Tennis Center allows a 15-minute grace period for players running a little late. However, you may be required to relinquish the court if other players are waiting.
Etiquette
Please be respectful to all staff and patrons!
- Leave outdoor shoes, food, and drinks in the lobby.
- Water only on the courts.
- Walk behind the green curtain to your reserved court at the time of your reservation. No running around behind curtains.
- Shirts must be worn at all times.
- Only tennis and pickleball play allowed on courts.
- Maximum of 2-on-2 per tennis or pickleball court unless in a class. If playing in a larger group, please wait patiently and non-disruptively on the sidelines. Be mindful of excessive yelling during play or on the side.
- Respect all rental equipment and space. Return equipment to designated areas. Gently pick up and put down pickleball nets.
- Music can only be played by varsity teams and registered student organizations during designated hours.
Locker Rental Rates & Policies
Locker rentals with showers are available to Gates Members (minimum 3-months) and MTU students. New purchases and renewed purchases can take place at either the Gates Tennis Center or SDC Ticket Office.

Member Locker Rental Rates
*Locker rentals are only available with Gates Tennis Center Members (minimum 3-month). Locker rental expiration date cannot exceed Membership expiration date. Prorated rentals are not available.
Lost & Found
The SDC ticket office (487-2073) collects major value items found at the SDC and Gates Tennis Center. Within 48 hours, these items are forwarded to the
Department of Public Safety and Police Services and held for safekeeping for up to six months. After an appropriate time has elapsed, the items are disposed of according to applicable state law. Tennis rackets and minor value items left at Gates Tennis Center may be retrieved from staff at the tennis center (487-2774).
Gates Tennis Center is not responsible for the security of property lost, found or abandoned in the facility. Users are expected to keep their belongings such as cell phones and laptops within their sight at all times.

Lot 23 has (4) first come first serve parking spaces. If they are full, users should park in Lot 22.
