Huskies Swim Training

Huskies Swim Training is a program that provides additional attention and competitive guidance to advanced swimmers looking to focus on stroke technique and efficiency.

Sessions will be designed to improve swimming through stroke drills and swimming sets focused on endurance, speed, and race strategy. Coaches will provide feedback and stroke correction in a group environment with an emphasis on promoting a love for competitive swimming and lifelong skills such as discipline, dedication, and teamwork. Come be part of the pack!

Competitive swimming opportunities are now available to Husky Swim Training participants! Contact Annie Bengry, Aquatics Manager, at ambengry@mtu.edu or (906) 487-2995 for more information.

Participants must have completed Huskies Group Swim Lessons, American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 4 or equivalent, demonstrate competency in all four strokes and be able to swim multiple lengths of the pool unassisted. Please see the Training Groups table for more information.

The first two weeks of each session, participants will be placed in groups based on speed and stroke proficiency.
It is recommended that all participants participate in 3 days a week to see optimal stroke and speed improvement.

Location

SDC Pool

The Student Development Complex lap pool and dive tank are licensed by the State of Michigan and inspected by the Western U.P. District Health Department. Accordingly, the water is analyzed and the temperature is taken daily. The new heating system keeps the water constantly between 82-83 degrees.

Youth Supervision in Locker Rooms

To help ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all participants, we strongly recommend that a parent or guardian accompany their child in the locker room at all times.
If you are using the pool and your child is not able to be accompanied by an adult in the locker room, we kindly ask that they use the private changing tents located on the pool deck instead.
Thank you for helping us keep our facility safe, respectful, and welcoming for everyone!

Special Requirements

All students must have appropriate swimwear (no cutoffs or street clothes) and a towel. Students should bring goggles. A parent or legal guardian is required to sign waiver of liability, health history, and concussion awareness forms for all youth classes.
