Aikido

Adult Aikido

Modern Japanese martial training emphasizing body movement and momentum rather than punches and kicks. The course teaches blocking, rolling, locking, and throwing movements that help students learn to control the force of an opponent.

Parking

The two-hour free parking window for MTU students, members and community patrons using SDC and Gates Tennis Center facilities is now administered through the ParkMobile app.
Parking sessions beyond two hours will be charged $1.50 per hour for the additional time, plus a 45-cent ParkMobile transaction fee.
To start a ParkMobile session, scan the QR code posted on signage in the lot, visit the ParkMobile website, or download the ParkMobile app from the App Store or Google Play. Don’t have a smartphone? You can still start a session by calling 1-800-280-4149 or texting “Park” to 77223.

About the Instructor

Mark Campbell-Olszewski is the coordinator of the Aikido program at Michigan Tech. He has studied Aikido under Mitsugi Saotome Sensei for over 26 years and holds the rank of 5th-degree black belt. He received his master's degree in clinical psychology from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1983. Mark considers Aikido a perfect blend of his two passions—martial arts and psychology—and considers himself privileged to teach these principles to community children and adults.

The Aikido program at Michigan Tech is affiliated with the Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU) an international organization under the umbrella of the Aikikai Foundation, Aikido World Headquarters.
