HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Trails are a great resource in our community – occupying 35 kilometers of nationally-recognized land for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking or mountain biking. Community members are required to purchase a membership or day pass prior to using the trails. Current Michigan Tech students use the trails for free through Experience Tech, and children 12 and younger can use the trails free of charge.
By purchasing a membership or day pass, you are supporting well-groomed, maintained and updated trails that ensure a safe and organized recreational experience. Whether you plan to enjoy a day on the trails at Michigan Tech, Swedetown, Chassell, or Maasto Hiito there are several membership options that include a single trail, all trails or a combination. There is also an option to purchase a Keweenaw Alliance Trails Membership, which is a collaboration of the trail systems in the Keweenaw.
The winter season typically opens up in December and continues into April. Daily grooming and trail condition updates take place in the winter months. Members have the option to join the Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Club for an annual membership fee of $10 and have free access to the club's cross-country skis and snowshoes.
You may purchase an annual membership pass or day pass at the following places:
- SDC Ticket Office
- Michigan Tech Trails (collection pipes with day passes available at all main trailheads)
- Cross Country Sports
- Downwind Sports
- Swedetown Chalet
The trail system has several amenities for all skill levels – beginner to advanced.
